Pontoon Boat Tour To See Christmas Lights

The Macon Telegraph has published this story about a pontoon boat decorated for Christmas and tours around Lake Wildwood...

"
On water as smooth as black glass, shimmering lights ride the ripples of Lake Wildwood.

Every light bulb on land mirrors in soft smears near the shore where about a dozen boats cruise during the Christmas on the Lake tours.

"There's something about the water, the way it reflects the lights," said Randy Oliver, who pilots one of the boats. "It's real pleasing to the eye to see it."

Dozens of lake front homes dressed up for the holidays adorn the 30- to 40-minute tour.

Oliver has spent recent years propagating lighted palm trees that line his yard.

"I add one every year," said Oliver, who wears a perpetual grin when talking about the light tour. "I'd like to do even more next year."

Around the coves and crannies of South Plantation Parkway, the Muchin home pulsates with prancing snowflakes that move to the music.

"We've always gone nutso at Christmas," said Linda Muchin, who moved to the lake from Seattle about eight years ago. "Every year we plan to add to it, although I don't know how."

This year, Muchin's son and daughter-in-law strung the lights and programmed them to flicker to the rhythm of holiday tunes heard on a radio.

For those who can't make it to the lake, the family even has their own Web site, www.crazymuchinhouse.com.

For those who do come, the Muchins ask that they bring some canned goods to help needy families. They hope their light display brings out the spirit of Christmas giving, their Web site states.

"It puts a smile on my face," Muchin said. "It makes me happy."

For the boat rides, organizers are collecting $5 donations for adults, and $3 for children under 12, but infants are free to ride.

The proceeds will benefit the family of Raymond Williams, who died of cancer at age 31, and buy playground equipment for the neighborhood, said John Green, chairman of Christmas on the Lake.

Green mounted a giant manger atop his boat house and attached a 3-foot helium balloon with strobe lights.

"You get the kids out here and they want to sing Christmas carols," said Green, who dressed up his pontoon boat as a giant red sleigh.
